Issue Numbering

For the earliest issues (1850s-1870s) there are various numbers on each issue. They each have a Volume number, issue number and "Whole Number". (For example, Vol V, No 3, Whole number 107).

For naming the files, we have decided to use the "Whole Number" system. - This is usually found on the right side of the newspaper on the first page.

For anyone who is scanning these early newspapers, please check that you are using the "Whole Number" system for naming the folders and files.

Thanks,

Julia

1960 Jan 7 (issue 1) - pages 3 & 4 are missing from microfilm.

January 1942 - issues numbered from 048 to 051 in error, should be 049 to 052; I have renamed png files, please take care of master files.

Sergey

1958 Dec 4 (issue 49) - pages 4 & 5 are missing from the microfilm.

We are running out of space again, so I moved 1949 master files to Andrea's computer and 1950, 1951 and 1952 to the computer where I am mostly working. Hopefully, the issue will be solved next week.

Indexing Over the Holidays

If you would like to continue indexing over the holidays, please take note of the months that have already been assigned to indexers:

Bert: September 1934 - December 1934, January-February 1937
Erik: January 1935 - June 1935
Nathaniel: July 1935 - December 1935
Katherine: May 1936 - December 1936 (Jan-Apr 1936 are done already)

Please edit this post or post a comment with your name and month/year you are indexing, if you are going to index other issues so that we avoid overlaps.

Thank you.

=Katherine=

The indexing information for page 4 is missing from the March 7, 1930 issue.
(newmarket_era_1930_03_07_005_04)

I have pasted the information for two articles that have OCR text at the bottom of the Master Index and they are highlighted.

Pages 18 and 19 are missing from the June 27, 1957 issue (Issue 26) on microfilm.

No pages 7 and 8 from newmarket_era_1931_07_31_026.
Adam

Pages 2 and 3 from newmarket_era_1931_06_05_018 are missing from the microfilm.

Indexing - Master File

Also, for that same issue (April 18, 1930), the only pages that have been indexed on Our Ontario are 1, 2, 5, and 6.

For April 18, 1930 in the Master index, the information for the "category" column is missing.

The files:

newmarket_era_1939_01_05_049_08
newmarket_era_1939_04_027_013_06

have been re-scanned and need to be reloaded.

Andrea

The corrupt files:

newmarket_era_1938_08_04_027_06
newmarket_era_1938_08_18_029_06

have been updated, placed in the upload-files png, and are ready to re-load.

Andrea

I have updated the master index file with a couple of issues from 1930 that were indexed in Our Ontario, but were not in excel files. I have highlighted those issues in blue.
The added issues are:

  • 7 Feb 1930
  • 14 Feb 1930
  • 6 Feb 1931
The Master Index file is complete up to and including Dec. 1931, not including BMDs

=Katherine=

The master file for newmarket_era_1939_04_27_013_06 is currupt and will not open in any program. Adam will re-scan it today.
