When you come back on Tuesday, save your Excel file in the "Indexed_at_Home" folder found in the Indexing folder of DLAB.
Check in those issues you have finished indexing.
I will go over your Excel files and import the indexes to the Access database.
If you have any questions, please leave a comment in this post.

I have changed the folders and files in the 1800s that had been labeled as the_newmarket_era, and replaced it with newmarket_era to maintain the consistency set by the 1930-1942 issues, labeled as newmarket_era. Please refrain from applying "the" for further issues.

newmarket_era_and_express_1952_09_18_038_12 is actually the page that is missing. I have renumbered the tif master files by changing page 13 to 14 and 12 to 13, so there is no longer a page 12.

The pattern described below repeats for March 21, 1973, March 28, 1973, April 4, 1973. There are three first and second pages.
The same naming convention was followed.
Labels: conventions - file naming 0 comments
For March 7, 1973 there were three different versions of the first and second pages printed for different geographic areas.
They were Newmarket, Aurora-King, and South Shore. I named them pages 01, 02 and 01B, 02B, 01C, 02C respectively.

The 300-II had auto-brightness selected this morning. Please check the scanner settings when you begin to ensure that the correct settings are in place. For quality control purposes, auto brightness is not effective. As well, it is easier to lighten the image in Photoshop, than it is to darken it. The appropriate brightness levels vary on the machines.

September 20, 1967 has a first and second section and an insert. For the sake of clarity and since the pagination is continuous throughout both sections I did not distinguish between the sections in the file names. They are simply numbered 01 through 28.
The insert was named B01_B12 etc.
This is a change from our previous method of naming the first section A and the second section B whether pagination changed or not.

Going forward, assume that the issue numbers post-1965 are on the top left of the editorial page, which "should" be on page 4. This could differ.

On March 17 1965 a second issue was published titled the "1965 Industrial and Commercial Review and Forecast". It was never given an issue number and the issue numbering continues as if it does not exist. It is clearly not a supplemental section of the numbered issue.
For our purposes we decided to name it the same as the regular issue published that day and add a letter to distinguish it.
. . . 1965_03_17_012
. . . 1965_03_17_012A
1965 begins on the microfilm with issue no. 2 on Jan. 6. Because 1964 ended on Dec. 22 with issue 52 it is suspected that there is a missing issue between these two. Although the exact date is unknown we are assuming that it is issue no.1 for 1965.

Current indexing files for all indexers, the master index, and the indexing templates have been updated with formulas to automatically create and enter the image file name in the "Image" field.
You no longer have to copy and paste the image file name onto the Excel worksheets. When you record the page number and publication date for an article or BMD record, the formula will generate and input the image file name in the "Image" field. The formula exists in the article and BMD worksheets.
If you see an error message (e.g., "#N/A"), it could be because the publication date you entered does not correspond to any image file names (i.e., that date does not have an issue). Also, if the date is not in the correct format it may not be identified by the formula and an error message will appear.
Please do not change the formulas or the date field's cell formatting to avoid errors.
Thank you!

The Nov 1, 1962 issue had 18 regular pages and then a supplemental cookbook at the end (numbered 1-20). For file naming, the cookbook section is: newmarket_era_and_express_1962_11_01_044_A01
(Newmarket Era and Express, Issue 44, Section A, page 1)
On the microfilm, the cookbook had two pages for every 1. I used the framing feature to scan each individual page, so the file sizes are about half as big (4000 kb)

I have created a master file to keep track of all of the missing page and issues. It is saved in S:\DLAB. The spreadsheet has a record of everything that is on microfilm and everything that is missing. There are still gaps that need to be filled in on the spreadsheet (i.e specific issue numbers for issues that haven't been scanned yet), but if you come across a missing page or issue, you can consult this spreadsheet.
Thanks,
Julia
I discovered this morning that some of the boxes did not have the corresponding roll of film in them. 1962 had 1964 in it, and other years on the shelf were also problematic. I will rename the mislabeled files this afternoon. Please be careful that you have the correct date/issue in place, as the scanning file name carries throughout our entire process.
